One of the lesser talked-about challenges of being a parent is the constant need to come up with new and fun places to visit as a family. While toddlers are generally entertained for hours by playing in the playground, having a picnic in the park or going to Soft Play.
It’s enjoyable for everyone to change things up now and again. With the summer approaching, there are plenty more fun opportunities for all the family to enjoy, come rain or shine. Here’s our pick of the best both in London and across the wider UK.
Arts and crafts sessions are fun for all ages and a great way to keep the kids entertained for hours whilst encouraging their learning and development. Head on over to the Wacky Warehouse at the Old House at Home for plenty of crafting fun.
After a creative session, there’s plenty of fun to be had in the rest of the warehouse with ball pits, slides, tunnels and climbing frames. Built around the motto “exercise in disguise”, a day out here will stimulate your toddler on both a physical and mental level, so a good night’s sleep is sure to be had by all.
Featuring the biggest toddler area in the UK, Playfactore is your new parenting BFF. Slides, tricycles and tunnels offer hours of fun (within a safely gated area for your peace of mind). For really tiny ones, the iClick interactive floor is sensational in the truest sense of the word, with interactive games designed to encourage children’s development using movement and colours. Baby-changing facilities are just a hop and skip away, too, so everyone can relax and have fun.
If you want to spend a fun day out with the kids and give something back, too, then Ouseburn Farm is the place to be. As a not-for-profit charity farm, their award-winning, environmentally friendly building, and space is home to a whole host of animals just waiting for visitors to make a fuss over them.
Toddlers will love seeing the traditional farm animals such as pigs, sheep, goats and chickens, and playing with the rabbits, guinea pigs, lizards and tortoises. Surrounding meadows, ponds and woodlands makes for some fun outdoor adventures while the on-site café has lovely, farm-fresh and sustainably sourced food including mouth-watering homemade cakes.
With the added bonus of being entirely free, the Diana Memorial Playground in London is a treasure trove for little ones. The play area has a fun Peter Pan theme with a wooden pirate ship and plenty of cabins, pulleys and ropes to indulge the pirate fantasy for hours on end.
A giant swing, turtle drum and a whole host of teepees encourage the imagination alongside a beach area and tree house with slides and ladders. Take wander down the sensory trail before settling into the storyteller’s chair for more adventures. And don’t forget to check the entertainment programme for plenty of great events to enhance the experience. Includes on-site toilets, nappy-changing facilities, adult seating and café for your pleasure and convenience!
