How to Celebrate New Year's Eve with a Toddler

When we become parents, we adopt a whole new way of life in many aspects. New Year’s Eve is one such example of when parenting moves the goalposts - gone are the days of partying until dawn but there are so many fun ways to ring in the new year as a family when the kids are still young. Whether you plan to stay home or get out and about, here’s our pick of the best…

Get Creative

If your kids are too small to stay up until midnight, how about setting up an activity night that will tire them out so you can celebrate at 12 o’clock in peace with your other half? Set up stations around the living room with arts and crafts, fancy dress and board games. You can even have a Mini New Year’s Eve celebration earlier in the evening, so they don’t feel like they are missing out on the fun.

Have a Dance Party

The New Year is all about celebrating so turn off the lights, grab some glow sticks and have a dance around the living room. You can play some dance party games to keep everyone in high spirits and keep the little ones interested, too.

Light It Up

If you’re based up in Yorkshire, kids of all ages will love a visit to the Wheel of Light in Leeds. Made up of more than 25,000 LED lights, it’s open until 10pm on New Year’s Eve. The Rainbow Factory Disney NYE party in Pudsey is also bound to be a hit. Running at various times through the afternoon of the 31st and suitable for kids up to the age of 10, kids can expect to see all their favourite Disney characters as part of a very special day sprinkled with pixie dust…

In London Town

An oldie but a goodie, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is a dream for all ages. Open from 10am-10pm for a full-on day of fun and games, little ones will adore the ice trike trail in Santa Land and the traditional Victorian-style funfair rides including the carousel and vintage fairground games.
